Brandid Sports: Denison (TX) Shuts Out Princeton (TX)

The Denison Yellowjackets finished the season rolling on all cylinders with a 43-0 victory over district foe Princeton. It was bittersweet win with it being Senior Day for a very special group of Yellowjackets who have been 3-4 year starters.

Running Back Jadarian Price (Notre Dame commit), Quarterback Caleb Heavner, Tackle Dameon Smallwood-Brooks (UNT commit), Cornerback Jalik Lewis (ACU commit), Linebacker Will Wallis, Wideouts Trey Rhodes, Dylan Dehorney, Keegan Pruitt, Tight End Jared Hendricks, and a host of others all contributed with big plays in their final game at Munson Stadium. Denison has a history of winning Senior Day just ask Lewis, "Since I've been here it's always been a W on Senior Day."

Denison got the party started with a 45-yard Price touchdown run on their opening drive. Defensive Back Lane Tharp intercepted the Princeton pass deep in the Yellowjackets red zone to give the ball right back to the offense. The Yellowjackets capitalized off the turnover when Heavner connected with Dehorney on a rollout pass from 13-yards out to make it 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. "It was a great team, got to keep it for next week." Dehorney

Heavner threw for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns on only 11 completions in his final game at Munson Stadium.

The Denison defense came up with another big play as Lewis intercepted the Panthers pass, that set up a Heavner to Price 29-yard touchdown pass to make it 22-0. Price ended the half with a 83-yard score to give Denison 29-0 lead at halftime. Price ended the night 175 yard and 3 touchdowns on the ground and 28 yards and a touchdown receiving.

"I'm proud of everybody, my last one here at Munson Stadium baby, and I love everybody on this team." Lewis

Sophomore Running Back Jack Aleman took over scoring duties in the second half, as he scored from 22-yard out to make it 36-0. Maybe the best moment of the night came when senior Running Back Treon Butler scored a 1-yard touchdown. The whole team celebrated like he just scored a game winning touchdown! There is nothing like Texas High School Football.

Denison (7-3) will travel to Ennis for their first round matchup in the playoffs. Princeton finished the season 4-6 and have alot of good pieces to build off of for next year.
