DeSoto (TX) Makes Its Case For King Of DFW

One of the most anticipated matchups of the year between the DeSoto Eagles and Dallas South Oak Cliff Golden Bears lived up to the hype. DeSoto would ultimately be too much for the defending 5A state champs claiming a 42-23 victory Saturday night.

DeSoto offense was lethal accumulating 379 yards of total offense on one of the top defenses in the state. The Eagles offense was led by Junior QB DJ Bailey who threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bailey, threw touchdown passes to Sophomore WR Daylon Singleton and Texas commit Johntay Cook. Cook was the Eagles leading receiver with 4 catches for 57 yards and a score. Running Back Jaden Trawick lead the Eagles in rushing with 82 yards and a score.

The Eagles defense got the scoring started with a Caimon Mathis 99-yard Pick 6! Mathis was lockdown all game with multiple pass breakups and great tackling in the run game. Mathis wasn't the only Eagles defender to pick off a SOC pass, as Jamarion Ravenell got a crucial interception in the 2nd half to stop SOC from scoring.

SOC had a hard time moving the ball in the 1st half, but showed alot of fire power in the 2nd half. Senior QB Tray Walton led the Golden Bear with 154 yards passing and 2 touchdown passes. His favorite targets were SMU commit Randy Reece, Joshua Manley, and Jamyri Cauley. Manley and Cauley caught touchdowns from Walton, while Reece had 6 catches.

DeSoto (2-1) will play Dallas Skyline and SOC (0-3) will face Dallas Parish Episcopal this Friday.
