Sherman (TX) Get First District Victory Over Frisco Lebanon Trail (TX)

The Sherman Bearcats got their first district win with a 28-3 victory over Frisco Lebanon Trail Thursday night at Kuykendall Stadium. The Bearcats did a good job winning all three phases of the ball game.

Once again Senior Quarterback/Safety Phoenix Grant led the Bearcat offense to 396 total yards of offense . Grant accounted for 258 yards of total offense with 176 through the air and 82 on the ground. The Yale commit, had 2 tackles on defense, and 2 punts for a 30.5 yard average for the Bearcats.
Senior Wideouts Vontrelle Sanders and JD Parker both had big nights receiving. Sanders led the bearcats with 6 catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. Parker had 2 catches for 65 yards including a great sideline catch on 3rd down. Sophomore Wideout Mikah Hunt scored his first varsity touchdown, as he recovered a Grant fumble in the end zone for 6.
Senior Running Back Caleb Thompson led the Bearcats in rushing with 94 yard and a score. Thompson talked about his o-line, "I just got to give it all to the O-Line they did their thing helping me out." When asked about his impressive touchdown run, Thompson simply said "I just my feet running, don't stop until the whistle blown, so I just kept going."

Sophomore ATH Kane Bowen had a big night on both sides of the ball. Bowen had 8 tackles, a tackle for loss, sack, and an interception on defense. "I saw someone open up. the quarterback drop, I saw the ball, and I went to get it." Bowen had 6 carres, a catch on offense also. Other defensive standouts were Defensive Lineman Chaz Brown who had 4 tackles, a tackles for loss, and forced a key fumble in the rd zone that was recovered by Safety Connor Clark. Kevin Sanchez and Major Thornhill combined for a sack also.
Sherman Head Football Coach Cory Cain gave all the praise to his kids and staff. "The credit goes to the kids. We changed up the practices a little bit, challenged them, and they accepted and the excelled at it. The credit goes to them. Anytime you only give up 3 points in a game that's good. It was also good to see the ball spread around on offense."
Lebanon Trail did have some bright spots. Senior Quarterback Matthew Robison was the Lebanon Trail leading passer with 79 yards through the air. Junior Quarterback Zachary Hare led the Trail Blazers' ground game with 81 yards rushing. While Senior Running Back Kaleb Broadway added 73 yards on the ground too. Senior Wideout Timothy Madison was the Trail Blazers' top receiver with 4 catches for 26 yards.

Sherman (2-2) has a bye week next week and will host Frisco High September 30th. Lebanon Trail (0-3) will face Frisco high next Thursday.
When asked about having an off week, Coach Cain simply stated, "You know as an old coach there is no off week. We are going to get some work in.'
